So we decided to go ahead and buy some of their dog food products online and to see what they were like for our family Cavalier named Lilly.

We purchased the Bowl Lickin’ Chicken Dry Food and Apple Snaffles Baked Treats.

All About Dog Food

Whilst meat makes up a high percentage of a dogs diet, domestic dogs also require important nutrients from some vegetables, grains and fruits. Alongside plenty of water.

These non-meat ingredients aren’t simply fillers. They provide your dog with a valuable and essential combination of protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, fibre and minerals in order to help them function normally. Just like us humans!

They are based in Hemel Hempstead in the UK and they are a vibrant, fun, healthy and ethical brand that produce healthy dog food.

The Barking Heads & Meowing Heads story started back in 2008. When they were formed by Dave, Paul and Jim because they loved their animals but at the time, they were appalled by the lack of quality dog foods on the market.

Our Barking Heads Dog Food Review;

Now we are going to review our experience with Barking Heads & Meowing Heads from the ordering stage to Lilly eating the dog food and treats!

Ordering On Their Website

We found that ordering the products on their website was quick and easy to use.

You simply select the dog food or treat, product size and then select your buying option, either; a one-time purchase or subscribe and save. We opted for the one-time purchase because we wanted to test the product to see what it was like.

However if you test the dog food or treat and your dog likes it, you would save money (10%) using their subscribe and save option. You can then choose how often you’d like it to be delivered, the option lists between 1 and 8 weeks.

Communication

We received an email confirmation displaying what we had purchased very soon after we ordered the items, which was very reassuring.

After ordering, the following day (Monday) we had an email from DPD telling us that the items would be delivered tomorrow (on Tuesday), which they were. In the same email there were delivery options in case you weren’t in. Also, if you have the DPD mobile app you could view and manage your delivery in that.

The communication with us about our order was very good and accurate.

Delivery Time

The delivery time was fantastic! We ordered the two items, the Bowl Lickin’ Chicken Dry Food and Apple Snaffles Baked Treats on the Sunday evening and they were delivered just after noon on the Tuesday by DPD.

Barking Heads Dry Food – Bowl Lickin’ Chicken

We ordered the Bowl Lickin’ Chicken 1kg Adult Dry Food because Lilly loves chicken, either hot or cold! It doesn’t smell as strong as regular dog food but it’s still not a nice smell for us humans!

Our Cavalier Lilly can be a fussy eater at times and yes today was no different. I think we will have to slowly introduce the dry dog food into her diet as it states on the rear of the packaging.

The packaging of the Bowl Lickin’ Chicken dog food is resealable, which makes it great for storage and maintaining freshness.

Composition: 55%* Chicken includes – Chicken*(34%), Dried Chicken*(21%), Brown Rice (19%), Oats, White Rice, Trout, Lucerne, Peas (4%), Sunflower Oil, Chicken Fat, Seaweed, Glucosamine 355mg/kg, Methylsulfonylmethane 355mg/kg, Chondroitin Sulphate 250mg/kg, Tomato (0.4%), Carrot (0.4%), Mixed Herbs (Marjoram, Basil, Oregano, Sage, Thyme, Parsley) (0.4%) and Minerals.

The dry dog food is free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives!

Feeding Guide

They’ve also included a helpful feeding guide on the rear of the packaging. This feeding guide recommends the daily suggested feeding amounts, based on the weight and the activity level of your dog (see below image).

They recommend you slowly introduce Barking Heads into your dogs diet. By replacing 25% of their existing dog food every other day, until they’re eating 100% Barking Heads. Which is something I think we will have to do!

Barking Heads Treats – Apple Snaffles Baked Treats

Lilly loves her treats and she lets us know by sitting next to the cupboard in the kitchen. So we went with the Apple Snaffles Baked Treats. When you open the packaging you can actually smell the apple and cinnamon. We were impressed by these.

When you’re sitting down having a brew with your favourite biscuits and your dog gives you those cute ‘can I have some please’ eyes. These are the perfect healthy dog treat so they leave you alone!

Lilly loved these from the off and given the chance she probably would’ve eaten the whole packet.
